One of our support workers was driving through Mardan (KPK) and spotted 2 little girls in the sweltering heat with no shoes and torn clothes. He stopped and asked the girls why they were out and not at school. They said they had no money and never been to school.

We took the children to their home and spoke to the children’s father and mother. The house they were living in was a substantial house, and no reason why the children should be on the streets.

After discussing with the parents, we had ascertained the house did not belong to them and was being given free by a local landlord to stay there for free. After further discussions and understanding the situation, we had realised the father was mentally unstable and the mother was being abused by the landlord in return the landlord was offering free lodgings.

The mother and children were in extreme stress and poverty, so we arranged to have them moved out of the property immediately. The Following day when we were arranging to move the family, the landlord had turned up and tried to stop the family from leaving.

Our support worker threatened to call the police.

The family were moved to temporary accommodation until more permanent home could be arranged for the family. Taqwa welfare Organization, arranged a local landlord to provide some land which he did for free and then we arranged a house to be built for the family.

During the build, the family were put up in a local guest housed for 3 months until the house was ready. Monthly family support was provided for the family along with admission of the children into the local government school.

Family is now stable and currently, father and mother are now working

and living a more normal life with their children.
